Group FAQ

What is a wxtxt group?

A group lets one person — the manager — pay for a whole crew on a single credit card. You set how many seats you need, and each person gets their own wxtxt feed. Handy for race teams, charter fleets, search-and-rescue crews, or a family on the water.

How much does it cost?

$10 per seat every 30 days, all on one card. You prepay your seats when you set up the group, then renew every 30 days for the seats you're using.

How do people join?

Each group has an invite link. Share it with your crew — each person signs up through the link. Each member then picks their own forecast area and starts their feed.

Do I have to take a seat myself?

No. You can run the group without receiving forecasts yourself (you just manage it), or take a seat like anyone else. You can give up your seat later and keep managing, or take a seat again whenever there's room.

How do I add more seats?

Use Add seats on your dashboard. Added seats are prepaid and prorated for the rest of this billing period, so you only pay the remainder of the cycle. Your next 30-day renewal then covers the larger crew.

What do "enable" and "disable" do?

Disabling a member stops their billing and turns their feed off — their seat stays on the roster, so you can re-enable them later. It can be used e.g. when someone goes on vacation and you don't want to pay for their seat, but still have them on the team when they return.

What's the difference between disabling and removing?

Disable keeps the seat on your roster (paused, not billed) so you can flip it back on. Remove takes the person out of the group entirely and frees the seat for someone else. If they want to re-join the group, they have to go through the group link again.

Can members leave the group on their own?

Yes. Any member can leave from their own wxtxt account page — they stop receiving and their seat frees up for someone else. The manager can't leave this way: to step away, transfer the group to another user or disband it.

What am I charged at renewal?

Your enabled seats, at $10 each. Disabled and removed seats aren't billed. If you've added seats mid-cycle, any prorated catch-up is rolled into that renewal.

If I replace someone mid-cycle, do I pay twice?

No. You've already paid for that seat this cycle, so swapping one crew member for another within your paid seats doesn't cost extra. You only pay more when you go above the number of seats you've already paid for.

How do I turn off auto-renew?

Tap Cancel renewal. The group runs to the end of the current billing cycle — your crew keeps receiving until then — and you won't be charged again. Change your mind? Resume renewal turns 30-day billing back on.

Can I hand the group to someone else?

Yes. Transfer moves the manager role to another wxtxt user; they take over billing/admin, and you keep your own seat as an ordinary member.

What happens if I disband the group?

Every member stops receiving forecasts immediately, and the group ends. This can't be undone, and prepaid time isn't refunded.

Are there refunds?

You're always paid through the end of the current cycle, and there's no credit for ending a seat early — disable or remove takes effect for billing at your next renewal, not as a mid-cycle refund.

What if my card fails at renewal?

We don't cut your crew off over a hiccup. We'll retry the charge and let you update your card — your members keep receiving while we sort it out.

Can members see each other?

No. Members never see each other's numbers or who else is in the group. As the manager you can see your roster's numbers — you need them to manage seats — but nobody else can.
